Ingredient Spotlight: Wild Plums

Wild Plums are known for their beautiful vibrant color and smooth taste. But as with many components we use at Poéthique, these natural sweets also make for an incredible skin care ingredient that have a natural symbiosis.

Our Radiance Boosting Face Serum has two key ingredients—caviar limes and wild plum extract. We’ve covered caviar limes in the past, so today we’ll be talking about wild plums, and see how the two work together to give your skin a silky vibrance.

Where Our Wild Plums Come From

There are many different varieties of plums, which are close relatives of peaches and cherries, that grow all over the world. Our face serum uses three different types of wild plums for our extract — Kakadu plums, Illawarra plums, and Burdekin plums. All of these are indigenous to Australia, where they’re sustainably sourced from rainforests.

These wild plums are as beautiful as the ones you can find in your local grocery store, and are also one of the world’s richest natural sources of vitamin C. However, the fruit is the only part of the plant that can be used in food or skin care products.

Wild Plums For The Skin

Wild Plum is the perfect ingredient for our Radiance Boosting Face Serum, because boosting skin vibrance is one of its key benefits! In a study, wild plums were found to restore lost fluorescence without damaging skin. With wild plum extract, skin appears more luminous and therefore, more youthful.

Wild plum extract was also shown, in the same study, to assist in the healing of sun damaged skin. This is because of wild plum’s high vitamin C content, which has a host of benefits on its own.

Vitamin C is a star

Vitamin C is mostly known for being a factor in delicious citruses like oranges. As mentioned above, it’s a powerful antioxidant that’s beneficial for skin health in a number of ways. First, sun protection. Vitamin C is not a sunscreen, as it doesn’t absorb UV light, but it does protect against the damage such light causes to the skin.

Vitamin C is also essential for collagen synthesis, which provides support and stability for the skin, helping decrease signs of aging. Vitamin C can even be beneficial for skin moisture.

Together with caviar limes, which in our serum gently works to strip away dead skin, wild plum extract provides an antioxidant function to protect the new skin. It is important to protect this new skin from the sun, so be sure to apply sunscreen when headed out for the day.
